MY TIPS - LIMA
Tips by Giselle
- Eat, eat and eat. Peruvian cuisine has taken on world renown in recent years and it is for a reason. It is food with all the typical products of America fused with Asian techniques and it is delicious! Of the places I visited, I recommend “La Lucha” in front of Kennedy Park in Miraflores. An Andean fast food, with different types of sandwiches so rich and popular that they have become a chain with several branches in Peru and other countries in the region. Another icon is "La Mar" by chef Gastón Acurio, who has given world fame to the food of his country. It only opens at noon as the fish served must be fresh. And finally, a classic of classics (if your budget allows it) "La Rosa Náutica", a restaurant accessed from a pier and its lounge is located in the middle of the sea. Beautiful views and gourmet food.
- The most beautiful and central area to stay is Miraflores. It has many parks, views of the Pacific, many gastronomic offerings and nightlife.
- The Historic Center is beautiful. Crowned by the Plaza de Armas in colonial style, you can find a few steps away the Cathedral, the Government Palace, many museums, the Alameda Chabuca Granda, a wide viewpoint of the city and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lima, the first American martyr recognized by the Vatican as a saint.
- Don't miss out on looking up on your walks. Lima is known for its balconies, part of the city's architectural heritage.
- Visiting Barranco is going to another more bohemian and colorful Lima. Known for the famous Bridge of Sighs, this neighborhood offers a wide variety of gastronomic and cultural proposals. In Barranco there are several museums, including that of Mario Testino, a world-renowned fashion photographer.
- In the middle of the city you can visit the Huaca Pucllana. An archaeological site belonging to the Lima culture. It is built almost entirely with adobes. It is made up of a 25-meter-high pyramid and a set of patios, squares and enclosures. You can take guided tours, which will explain who the first inhabitants of the city were and how they lived.
- Another interesting tour is the Magic Water Circuit. The 1929 Park was modernized in 2007 with a set of fountains where music, water, sound and laser lights are mixed to generate moving water shows.
- Keep in mind the traffic can be really intense. Get ready to hear the horn noise all day long, the taxi drivers who see you walking down the street make you notice their presence thinking that you will want to take a ride with them.
- Be careful with the money exchange, there are people with vests with a $ sign that exchange dollars for Peruvian soles on the street, but you have to be very careful that the bills they offer you are not false and the exchange rate is appropriate .
